Choking on Love - Group ?'s

In groups of 1-3 please read pages144-149 and answer the 5 ?'s about the story for participation credit.

Please bring your books with you to class on Thursday.

1. When the chokings first occur, Brian is presumably around 14 or 15. Brian is still this age as he tells the story of the chokings, as he mention that he nearly choked to death "three times that summer".

2. Brian seems to be a shy individual, as he only appears to have two friends (Mary Jo and Feinburg). This causes him to not follow through on anything from retaliation to talking to Mary Jo.

3. The breaks serve to show the change in Brian's character over time.

4. He actually asks Mary Jo on a date.

5. In scenes involving him being bullied, talking about Mary Jo, asking favors from his sister, and being nearly killed.

About this course!

This course stresses understanding the characteristics & techniques in the literary genres of fiction, poetry, and dramatic writing. This course will continue to build on students’ reading and writing skills begun in previous creative writing classes. Readings and discussions of works by major writers in the field will be examined as inspiration and models of fine writing. This educational blog is designed for the use of the students at the School of the Arts in Rochester, NY.
